Job Description:

The Ledger-Enquirer, a McClatchy-owned news and information company in Columbus, Ga., has an immediate opening for a digital journalist.

We're looking for someone who can post, package, aggregate and enhance digital content on our website and mobile site, and use social media to drive traffic to these sites.

An ability to build engagement on Facebook is a must, as more than half of the traffic to our website comes from links on our Facebook page. The person in this position should also have experience managing a Twitter account.

The ideal candidate will have a knack for tracking key metrics and the ability to advise newsroom leadership on adjustments needed to our daily operations and our overall strategy for building our audience on our website, mobile site and social media.

This person would also help our newsroom staff create content, including videos and other visual storytelling, that increase audience engagement. He or she should have the ability to write quickly, concisely and for an audience with a short attention span, as well as the willingness to conduct crime and general news reporting as assigned.

The job requires flexibility, creativity, attention to detail, excellent time management, and the willingness to work nights and weekends. We're looking for self-starters who can work effectively alone or push and inspire colleagues as a member of a team.

The ideal candidate will have some experience contributing to the website of a daily newspaper, but we'll consider talented, tech-savvy journalists with a proven track record of building an audience on social media.

Columbus is a growing city that's a 90-minute drive from downtown Atlanta and a 30-minute drive from Auburn University. It's home to Fort Benning, Aflac, Synovus, the world's longest urban whitewater course (really!), the Scrambled Dog and the Ranger Burger.
